Unlocking Tech Careers: A Pioneering Event by UKBlackTech, West London Alliance, and Digital Skills Hub

On Thursday, 7th March, the University of West London became a buzzing hub of inspiration and guidance for over 200 students eager to forge their paths in the tech industry. The “Getting into Tech” event, a collaborative effort by UKBlackTech, West London Alliance, and London Digital Jobs & Skills Hub, offered an unparalleled platform for young individuals in West London.
This event was not just a gathering; it was a beacon of opportunity for students from six prominent colleges – West London College, Stanmore College, West Thames College, Barnet and Southgate College, College of North West London, and HRUC (Harrow, Richmond & Uxbridge Colleges) – to immerse themselves in the tech world. The aim was clear: to connect these bright minds with seasoned tech professionals, elucidate the myriad pathways into tech careers, and discuss key strategies for employability and career readiness in this dynamic sector.

The speaker lineup was nothing short of stellar, featuring influential voices from the tech industry and beyond. Lordwin Anim from Microsoft, Olu Aina, a Data Analyst at Hippodigital, and Muhammed Moshood, Head of Marketing at Suregroup, were among the experts sharing their wisdom. The event also boasted insights from Gilles Marajo on digital transformation at PwC, Vivian Uzor on cloud computing at Goldman Sachs, and a host of others from notable organizations who spoke on various facets of tech careers, from data analysis and engineering to cybersecurity and digital transformation.

Special attention was given to the unique journeys of individuals like Kemi Joy Sulola, who navigated from music to AI entrepreneurship, and Kevin Loi-Heng, who transitioned from law to AI startups, showcasing the diverse pathways into the tech industry.
The “Getting into Tech” event, orchestrated by key figures including Olympia Brown, Director of London Digital Jobs & Skills Hub; Benaisha Daruwalla from Ealing Council; and Mark Martin, the founder of UKBlackTech, was a testament to the power of collaboration and vision in opening up the world of tech to the next generation.
