Digital skills, local opportunity and lasting impact in the heart of Peckham.

Not your typical bootcamp
Click Start Peckham DAZ (Digital Accelerator Zone) brought practical digital training and industry opportunities to young people living or working in south London. Delivered by UAL Creative Computing Institute and UKBlackTech, with support from Southwark Council, the programme helped people develop the skills, confidence and connections to enter the digital economy.
It was part of the national Click Start programme, developed by the Institute of Coding and funded by Nominet. The programme focused on young people aged 18–30, including people from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds.
What we achieved together
Over 200 students developed tech skills across 18 months of courses, workshops and events. Two learning tracks—Accessible Web Development and Introduction to Data Science—combined hands-on learning with access to industry professionals.
Students took part in workshops and sessions with organisations including Vantage Data Centers, Hippo Digital, Amazon and Booking.com, and gained access to three of London’s biggest tech events.
Real data, real high street
The High Street Innovation Project connected classroom learning to Peckham High Street. Using real footfall and shop spend data shared by the GLA High Street Data team, students created data visualisations and apps to help local retailers make better-informed decisions.
Tree Shepherd and Peckham Business Forum helped connect students with local businesses. The work gave students practical projects to showcase through their portfolios, GitHub profiles and personal websites.
