We are keen to hire a Program Specialist for our Worlds team to work on a number of long term projects in a mission-driven team.

The Worlds team provides DeepMind Researchers with the best training and testing environments possible. These range from bespoke mini-games, aimed at answering specific research questions, to expansive first-person environments using modern game engines. The team is crucial in helping steer DeepMind’s research forward. Projects we’ve worked on include AlphaGo, DM Lab, and DQN on Atari and more recently XLandopen_in_new as well as contributions to numerous publications.

The role of a Program Specialist within Worlds is to collaborate with team leaders and drive deliveries. You will achieve this by organising and enabling everyone to be the best at what they do and to make fast-paced progress, iterating processes to ensure continuous efficiency and successful outcomes.

You will also need to be proactive and thoughtful about deepening your understanding of people, their preferences, their needs and their work.

You’ll also deepen your domain knowledge, working alongside many different disciplines to ensure all our work is advancing towards DeepMind’s mission. Machine Learning / AI experience is not required

Key responsibilities:

Technical projects and process

Support the team with all required elements of end-to-end project planning and delivery

Drive the delivery of large infrastructure projects

Track progress, maintain up to date information, anticipate and propose solutions to issues and risks

Evaluate the success of programs against their aims, goals and objectives

Identify opportunities to iteratively improve ways of working, tools or processes and suggest solutions

Enabling teams

Facilitate conversations, meetings and opportunities for collaboration to drive the best outcomes; create connections and relationships between the domain you oversee and the rest of the org

Support the drive for engagement across the team by building and maintaining relationships, sharing constructive feedback, challenging established ways of thinking and encouraging them to achieve their full potential

Domain Knowledge

Commitment to learning and understanding your team’s technical field, and your broader understanding of AGI, in order to inform how you enable people, teams and optimise research

About you

Project delivery:

Experience in project/program management with the skill to navigate through ambiguity and adjust strategies as project conditions change

Experience delivering software in a customer centric environment including tools and techniques such as stand ups, retrospectives, agile boards, project plans

Experience driving large scale infrastructure projects and desire to dive into the details to understand how the various blocks depend on each other

Willingness to dive into details and actions as needed, to help the project operate at pace and to ensure nothing falls behind

Communication:

Strong communication skills, ability to develop relationships with key partners and use these to influence action and outcomes

Skilled in all aspects of creating and delivering impactful presentations

Knowledge and experience in supporting individuals during times of change

Process:

You have basic scripting skills allowing you to create small tools and dashboards

You create lean processes that anyone can follow with little context
