Snapshot
The Education Partnerships team is shaped by a vision to see an AI ecosystem that supports inclusive and equitable use of AI to maximise benefit to society. We support DeepMind’s mission by delivering a portfolio of programmes and partnerships to accelerate access to AI education for underrepresented groups, strengthen support to underserved institutions, improve diversity of the AI talent pool, and grow representation in the AI field.

Increased representation offers an opportunity to bring diverse values, hopes and concerns into conversations about the design and deployment of AI – and this is critical to maximise the potential for AI to benefit everyone.

Our scholarship and early-career researcher programmes, created in partnership with many institutions, aim to broaden participation in science and protect the future of research and education.

The role
As part of the next phase of our education strategy, we will be developing new programmes, creating educational resources and building global partnerships needed to scale new and existing education programmes in AI.

In this role you will work with the Education Partnerships team and with a cross-functional team of scientists, engineers and operations staff to build and scale education programmes and partnerships globally.

Key responsibilities:
Incubate, own and drive a portfolio of education programmes that reach a global audience of students, early career researchers and academics.
Build strategic and value-aligned partnerships with education providers, community organisations, nonprofits and governmental institutions that act as force multipliers to scale our education programmes.
Create and implement innovative solutions that improve the overall operational effectiveness needed to continue to scale the portfolio of programmes efficiently.
Partner effectively with internal DeepMind teams, such as comms, policy, public affairs and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I), to develop consistent narratives and communication plans, share outcomes with internal stakeholders and build awareness of and excitement about the programmes in your portfolio.
Contribute collaboratively to other DeepMind efforts aimed at improving DE&I within DeepMind and in the broader AI ecosystem.
About you
In order to set you up for success as an Education Partnerships Lead at DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

Deep experience in developing and leading scalable educational and STEM talent development programmes across multiple stages of education.
Extensive expertise in programme portfolio management, including the ability to collaborate closely with senior internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Demonstrable experience in building and managing strategic partnerships and collaborations with education providers and other stakeholder groups.
Broad domain knowledge of the education sector and of the tech and AI DE&I landscape – global trends, challenges and opportunities.
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
A strong strategic mindset with evidence of ability to take ambiguous programme aspirations and turn them into impactful programmes that have a positive impact and measurable outcomes.
Exceptional cross-functional collaboration skills and evidence of ability to lead and inspire internal followership for a vision.
Superb executive communication skills – both written and verbal. Can tailor approach and communication style to diverse audiences. For example, comfortable presenting programme updates to very senior stakeholders as well as working with more junior folks to engage them in supporting some aspects of programme delivery.
Purpose driven – evidence of relatable understanding of the systemic barriers causing underrepresentation of certain groups in tech and AI careers and demonstrable commitment to removing these barriers.
Experience working in multiple regions of the world and/or understanding the education system of multiple countries, including the UK.
At DeepMind, we value diversity of experience, knowledge, backgrounds and perspectives and harness these qualities to create extraordinary impact. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, maternity or related condition (including breastfeeding) or any other basis as protected by applicable law.
